Worum geht es in deinem Distro?
Wir haben unseren Fokus auf queer/feministische Zines gelegt. Das heißt, dass wir Zine mit queer/feministische Inhalten vertreiben, aber auch solche die von Queers und Feminist_innen und Verbündeten angefertigt werden – jedoch keine queer/feministische Headline haben. Die meisten Zines sind dem Genre von Personal Zine zu zuordnen und erzählen Stories vom Alltag. Wir denken, dass Personal Zines sehr wichtig sind, weil sie das Politische im Privaten thematisieren und auf diese Art und Weise Macht- und Herrschaftsstrukturen sichtbar machen können (auf individueller und diskursiver Ebene).
We are focus on feminist, queer zines. That means we have zines with feminist and queer relevant topics, but also zines which are made by feminist, queers (allies) and don’t have feminist and queer stories as headlines. Also, most of our zines are personal zines and tell stories about daily life. And this is so important about the personal zines: the personal is political, still! Feminist and queer personal zines show the power relations within our society and are a visible protest (individually and discursively) within our western societies against intersectional forms of discrimination

Was bedeuten Zines für dich?
(Katrin) They convey a sense of not being alone in this world. This world which makes you feel alienate and crazy if you don’t fit in. you read a zine and …hey!… there is someone else who made the same experiences or felt like you or even is like you.
Zines are a connecting tool! They build a band between different communities, cities and even countries, likewise at the Zinefest Berlin. I met wunderful people through zines and have made close connections and friend-/relationships through zines.♥
Zines vermitteln eine Form von “Nicht-Allein-Sein” in dieser Welt. Die Welt, in der du dich so entfremdet und verrückt fühlen kannst, wenn du nicht in sie “hineinpasst” oder reinpassen willst! Und auf einmal liest du ein Zine und du bemerkst es gibt noch mehr Menschen da draußen, denen es ebenso geht.
Außerdem verbinden Zines verschiedene Communities, Städet, Länder miteinander, wie zum Beispiel hier auf dem Zinefest! Aber ich habe auch einen Haufen netter Menschen durch Zines kennengelernt bzw. haben sich ganz feste Freundschaften dadurch entwickelt 🙂 ♥ Sigh…

An welchen Zineprojekten arbeitest du gerade?
Uuhh, Momentan gibt es sehr viele Bestellungen bei unserem Distro. Das ist fein! Katrin gestaltet zusammen mit riotmadewithlove ein Self-Love Compilation Zine. Ein Teaser-Zine wird es auf dem Zinefest 2013 geben!

What’s your name, where are you from and what’s the title of your zine?
My name is Lilli Loge. I’m from Berlin and the last two zines that I made are “Lies die kind” and “At the feminist boot-camp – we are not here to enjoy ourselves!!!”

What is it about?
”Lies die kind” is about trauma, repressed memories and about the loss of speech.
“At the feminist boot-camp…” is a Tijuana Bible in which I make fun about female stereotypes and prejudices about feminists.

What does your zine/ distro mean to you?
The freedom to publish whatever I like.

How long have you been making zines?
since 2003

What other zine projects are you working on at the moment?
Besides my Graphic Novel I’m working on an erotic Mini-Zine for
Re:Surgo. And maybe next year I’ll put out a collection of unfinished
stories and fragments.

What’s your name, where are you from and what’s the title of your zine/ distro?
My name is Maartje Schröder, 26 years old and I live in Amsterdam. The name of my zine is ‘The Title Depends’ and up until now, I’ve made 7 issues. I try to do every month one!

What is it about?
The zine is about the things that happen to me in my life, things or literature that I find interesting or love to share with my readers. It usually has to do with sexuality, gender, queerness, loneliness and death. Also I print the drawings and collages I’ve made. Also the 3 dogs that I had in my life, play a big role.

How long have you been making zines?
When I was in art school I made a lot of little booklets, but never in zine-form and on a regular basis. Also publishing it and opening up to the world is very new to me! I got inspired by a good friend of mine in Amsterdam, who opened a queer zine archive in Amsterdam. I am doing this zine all by myself, but every now and then I get feedback from friends.

Are there any projects/ ideas/ networking that you need help with, and would like people to contact you about it?
I’d love to get in contact with anyone! To trade zines and maybe do projects with together. I love getting and sending special mail so, maybe also for that. Ask any crazy question and nothing is too weird!

What’s your name, where are you from and what’s the title of your zine/ distro?
My name is Caro and I’m from London (England) but now live in Berlin.
The zine distro is Featherbottom Press, named after the most beautiful hamster that ever walked this earth: Doris Featherbottom. I decided to name the distro after her while she was still alive and well – she was a
huge inspiration to me – and when she passed away this summer I was stoked that her name would live on.

What is it about?
Featherbottom Press has a distinct focus on intersectionalism and liberation… FOR ALL. One person – an anarcha-feminist and gender-free straight-edge vegan – and their scatterbrained approach to activism brought this project together.

What does your zine/ distro mean to you?
From I was first able to pick up a pencil, scissors, and glue, I’ve always been involved in creative and DIY projects. I love making zines; they are the perfect outlet for all of the abstract and obscure, as well
as some of the ordered, thoughts I have! Each one is personal too and an intimate expression of who I am. I also think zines are a great way to circulate information, all the while being creative and keeping busy! *

How long have you been making zines?
I wish I had been making zines my whole life! But perhaps then they wouldn’t mean as much to me… I’ve been into zines for many years but only recently started to make my own. Out of frustration with a lack of
literature on a particular topic I made my own zine to distribute information to fellow activists. I enjoyed the process so much that it continued from there!

What other zine projects are you working on at the moment?
I am working on a couple of compilation zines with friends who are based worldwide. It’s exciting working with others because the contributions are so varied! I’ll be stoked when these zines are complete and I can share them with the rest of the world! Ha. *

Are there any projects/ ideas/ networking that you need help with, and would like people to contact you about it?
I am always open to new projects so would like to offer MY energy, resources, and time to others instead! I’m new to Berlin and would love to get involved in anything of an intersectional and radical nature. It would be the perfect way to meet super rad new people! 🙂

Worum geht es in deinen Zines?
Brav_a ist ein queer-feministisches Zine im Stil eines Teeni-Magazins. Es geht um Themen wie Liebe, Sex, Flirten, Feminismus, die queere Szene etc… je nach Beitrag ironisch, witzig oder ernst. Die Texte sind meist auf Deutsch aber einige sind auch auf Englisch, je nachdem was wir für Texte/Comics/etc. zugeschickt bekommen. Jede_r kann mitmachen!

Was bedeuten deine Zines für dich?
Die Möglichkeit eine Plattform für politische Auseinandersetzung zu geben, in einer Form, die für möglichst viele verständlich ist. Also auch für Leute die nicht in der queer-feministischen „Szene“ bewegen. Außerdem durch das unkommerzielle D.I.Y. Dings komplette Unabhängigkeit und durch die kleine Redaktionsgruppe (2 Leute) keine stundenlangen Diskussionen 🙂

Wie lange machst du schon Zines?
Isabelle: Mein erstes Zine war eine Zeitschrift für meinen Hamster über Hamster als ich ca. 6 war 😉
Daniel ist seit 3. Ausgabe dabei.
Die erste Brav_a ist im März 2012 erschienen.

An welchen Zineprojekten arbeitest du gerade?
Brav_a #3! Sie wird zum Zinefest hoffentlich fertig sein, danach fangen wir gleich mit Brav_a #4 an!

Gibt es Ideen oder Projekte, für deren Umsetzung du noch Hilfe brauchst und wegen welcher sich Menschen bei dir melden sollen?
Wir suchen immer neue Beiträge! Ca. 60-80% der Texte/Comics/Illustrationen etc. stammen nicht von uns beiden selbst, sondern von verschiedenen Menschen, die uns ihre Beiträge zuschicken.

What’s your name, where are you from and what’s the title of your zine/ distro?
We’re Anselm, Lina and Sophie, three Berlin residents, and our zine is called Heimat Zine.

What is it about?
Each of our bi-annual publications deals with a different topic. In thefirst issue we approached the concept of the german word “Heimat” as it’s the title of our zine. Applied meanings here vary from “home” to “origin” and have been used in different contexts in history, so we asked around to find out more about contemporary associations. The second issue, just finished and ready to be read, is about Heimat related dishes and food you make and eat at home in general.

What does your zine/ distro mean to you?
Sure a lot! All of us study full time, some of us even work part time and looking into the process of editing a zine has become the most important side project ever. We put all of our energy in it to be able to publish it twice a year and every working hour is paying off. The feedback has been amazing, we are super thankful and also much encouraged to keep on working on the project. For us, it is the best way for generating creative output because it brings together the assets of three individuals. Plus, our contributors are the best!

How long have you been making zines?
For almost a year now.

What other zine projects are you working on at the moment?
Since we’re all quite slammed with things to do the Heimat Zine is the only zine project we’re currently working on. For a maybe not so distant future, when we will actually have the time to realize all of our ideas we have a lot of more fun projects in mind.

Are there any projects/ ideas/ networking that you need help with, and would like people to contact you about it?
Our project is a two-way-communication with people who we ask for their perceptions and views of particular themes, so every kind of networking is great for us. If you feel like you may want to contribute something written, drawn, illustrated or taken a picture of, simply have a look on our website. For the next zine there’s definitely going to be another call, and we’d be more than happy if many people take the time to answer it!

Wie heisst du, woher kommst du und wie heisst dein Zine oder Distro?
mein name ist Harald Kuhn und mein penname ist Dontoraneko. Ich bin 1969 in Würzburg geboren, in Aachen aufgewachsen und lebe seit 2000 als selbständiger comiczeichner und illustrator in Berlin.

“Shokuhn” ist ein (wirklich) kleines Heft (~4,5x13cm). Es enthält 32 Seiten und ist selbstgedruckt und die cover4seiten sind handcoloriert in der tradition der japanischen hanafuda-spielkarten. Am besten beschreibt es ein auszug aus germanga:

Der Autor erzählt in klassischen senkrechten 4-Panel-Strips von seinen Erfahrungen als Fahrer eines japanischen Filmteams. Der deutsch/japanische Kulturenclash wurde zwar schon oft behandelt, aber selten so unterhaltsam wie hier. Harald Kuhn ist ein scharfer Beobachter und erzählt mit der nötigen Selbstironie wirklich witzige Episoden über seine Konflikte mit den Japanern, die Konflikte der Japaner untereinander und mit der deutschen Kultur, sowie über seine ganz persönlichen Konflikte.

Worum geht es in deinen Zines?
In SHOKUHN geht es um interkulturelle kompetenz, mit schwerpunkt auf japanische und deutsche alltagskultur. Es ist der autobiografische augenblick auf aktuelle lebenssituationen.

Was bedeuten deine Zines für dich?
Ich lese soviel wie möglich. Die authentietät ist einfach überwältigend.

Wie lange machst du schon Zines?
Seit etwa 2004.

An welchen Zineprojekten arbeitest du gerade?
Gerade habe ich eine geschichte vorbereitet, in dem zwei riesenroboter
den flughafen berlin zerstören, für das magazin Mangamixx. Darüber
hinaus finden meine Geschichten ihre heimat in den magazinen Renate,
Milk&Wodka, 24hBerlin und Rorschach.

Gibt es Ideen oder Projekte, für deren Umsetzung du noch Hilfe brauchst und wegen welcher sich Menschen bei dir melden sollen?
Für Shokuhn trifft das natürlich nicht zu, aber für das projekt 24 Stunden Comic in Berlin sind natürlich immer teilnehmer willkommen.

Wie heisst du, woher kommst du und wie heisst dein Zine oder Distro?
Hi! Ich heiße Ursi, komme ursprünglich aus Regensburg (das ist im hochkonservativen Bayern! Igitt! Igitt!), wohne nach einem längeren Zwischenstopp in Paris nun seit gerade mal 2 Jährchen in Berlin.
Mein Zine heißt *grrrls in subculture* & zudem betreibe ich mit lieben Freund_innen das *Until all are free Distro*!

Worum geht es in deinen Zines.
Grrrls in subculture*ist ein feministisches HC/Punk Zine. Die meisten Frauen* in der Hardcore und Punk Szene waren bereits mit Macho Typen konfrontiert oder haben sich, so wie ich selbst, nie getraut ein Instrument anzufassen oder eine Band zu gründen. Damit das anders wird, müssen wir besonders den jüngeren Mädchen* zeigen: Es geht! Grrrls in subculture soll also Frauen* dieser Szene eine Stimme geben und außerdem dazu anregen über das Geschlechterverhältnis und den Umgang miteinander nachzudenken. Es ist ein ausgestreckter Mittelfinger an die Tough Guys der Szene!

Was bedeuten deine Zines für dich?
Es hat mir unheimlich gut getan meine Wut auf Macker & andere antifeministische Menschen durchs Schreiben und Basteln rauszulassen. Das war durchaus therapeutisch. Dementsprechend bedeuten mir meine Zines wirklich viel! Durch grrrls in subculture habe ich außerdem fantastische Leute kennengelernt. Ich bin wahnsinnig glücklich dieses Projekt gestartet zu haben.

Wie lange machst du schon Zines?
Ich habe damit 2011 angefangen.

An welchen Zineprojekten arbeitest du gerade?
An grrrls in subculture #3!

Gibt es Ideen oder Projekte, für deren Umsetzung du noch Hilfe brauchst und wegen welcher sich Menschen bei dir melden sollen?
Ich bin immer auf der Suche nach kreativen grrrls*, die Lust haben über ihre Erfahrungen in der Punk Szene zu schreiben/malen/dichten/whatever. Meldet euch gerne!!

Was möchtest du sonst mit den ZFB-Zinesters teilen?
Danke, dass ihr alle eure Energie in Zines steckt. Besonders persönliche Zines sind mir stark ans Herz gewachsen. Es ist unheimlich mutig eigene Erfahrungen und Ideen zu veröffentlichen. Zines geben dafür den perfekten Rahmen. Ich denke, dass wir durch die Zine Kultur alle wachsen können. Wenn wir persönliches teilen, dann haben andere Menschen zum
Beispiel die Möglichkeit ein „Ich bin mit … nicht allein.“ zu entwickeln. Danke euch allen!

Hej, my name is Johanna Maria and I am from Leipzig. My zine-project is called Riotmade with Love. I also write a personal zine called Momo. Besides I also do research on queer/feminist zines.

What is it about?
Riotmade with love is an open d.i.y. project. It’s queer/feminist, pro-kitten and full of love for the unexpected, dancing, travelling, collectivity, the hidden beauties of every-day, activism and sparkling freaks. Riotmade with love wants to share zines, thoughts, workshops and other little somethings with you. I table with my personal zine and also some other zines I am involved with / I like a lot. I hope that Riotmade with Love will develop to a small distro someday. My personal zine Momo is about travelling, friendship, love, queer/feminism and the little adventures in every day. Every issue covers different topics depending on what’s happening in my life.

What does your zine/ distro mean to you?
For me zines are a wonderful way to share things with other people and to get to know them. I learned that zines can create friendship and they are a good reason to travel as well! So this year I travelled to Vilnius for a queer zine fair and in december I will table at the second queer zinefest in London.

How long have you been making zines?
I started making zines more than three years ago. Besides my personal zine I also participated in different zine-projects like ‘Dressed like that’ and the ‘Krass’ magazine.
What other zine projects are you working on at the moment?
I work with Katrin from Heavy Mental Distro on a compilation zine about self-love and self-care.

Are there any projects/ ideas/ networking that you need help with, and would like people to contact you about it?
We are really happy for people to join our compilation zine on self-love and self-care. You can find the call for submissions at my blog. Besides I am really happy to give workshops on (queer/feminist) zines. So if you want me to do one don’t hesitate to contact me. I love to travel and meet other queer/feminists and zinesters.

Anything else you’d like to share with the fellow zinesters at ZFB:
I am really happy to participate in ZFB for the second time. Last year I went home with so many beautiful zines and lots of inspiration.
